This Week in 5th Grade
We are continuing our service project for Casa Esperanza this week. Students were introduced to the service project at assembly a couple of weeks ago. We are partnering with Great Oak High School to support their efforts. Our grade was tasked with donating body wash. We would love to see everyone participate. Donations can be brought into the 5th grade classroom. Thank you very much for your generosity!
Our writing celebration this week was a lot of fun and well received by all of the students! The students brought home their stories and notes of encouragement, so ask them if you can take a look.
Our colony “Who am I” was fun. It was nice to see that the majority of the students were able to correctly guess at least half of the colonies based on the clues presented to them. The coming week will include learning about how the colonies began their journey toward banding together.
We will continue our non fiction reading and writing unit next week. Students picked a national park informative book to read and take notes from. They will continue learning how to write relevant, interesting and informative pieces in this genre. We will also be reading “The Story of Us”, which details the fight for independence. I will also start a historical fiction book on the Revolutionary War.
We have started our new unit in science on Earth, Earth systems, the stars and our solar system. We began this week with an introduction into the sun and will continue learning about this and the size of our Solar System.
The faculty has a staff meeting next Wednesday so all clubs will be cancelled. Please plan to pick up your child at 3:15 dismissal or they can also go to daycare.
Enjoy your week!
