Welcome back everyone,
I truly hope that you all had a relaxing and rejuvenating break and also had some fun adventures. I look forward to hearing all about each child’s break in the morning. I had a chance to meet our visiting Korean student, Jay, this afternoon. He is very excited to join our class and learn all about California. Please be ready to welcome him to our school.
We are going to be starting a new initiative for the next month. We are going to do “an article a day” each morning. This 10-20 minute exercise will focus on non-fiction reading and will strengthen their comprehension aptitude. I think it will be a lot of fun to work through the varied topics.
We have many exciting projects and events upcoming. It is going to be busy...but a fun busy! I will be introducing the Science Fair project. The majority of this 6 week project will happen in class, but there will be opportunities to work at home as well. The project is highly structured and filled with deadlines to meet. It is very important to stay on top of the schedule to be able to perform at your best.
The spelling bee will take precedence as well for the next couple weeks. Students will have homework based off the word lists that were passed out before break and will replace Wordly Wise for a few weeks. Our classroom bee will be held prior to the school wide bee on Feb. 1.
Finally, our Astrocamp overnight field study is quickly approaching! We will be heading out on Feb. 4-6. We’ll continue our work through the Solar System to prepare for our trip.
I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
